Staff from Barratt David Wilson Homes Southampton Division have partnered with local cardiac charity Heartbeat to deliver ‘healthy heart’ checks at its headquarters in Hedge End.

The leading UK housebuilder, which is currently building Pebble Walk on Hayling Island and Forest Walk in Whiteley, invited two of University Hospital Southampton’s specialist nurses to help identify potential heart conditions and promote better heart health as part of its partnership with chosen charity Heartbeat.

Staff members received ten-minute checks including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose levels and BMI and were given personalised advice to help improve their cardiac health based on their results.

With a fresh new year underway, the checks were part of the housebuilder’s commitment to encouraging healthy living amongst its staff. And, with heart disease one of the leading causes of death in the UK for both men and women, Barratt’s strategic partnership with Heartbeat works to raise awareness of the importance of good heart health.

Managing Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes Southampton Division Matt Paine said: “We take the physical and mental health of our staff very seriously and, with the new year well underway, we thought now was a great chance for us all to review and reflect upon what we can do to improve our health and wellbeing.”

Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Heartbeat Tanya Harder said: “Heart disease symptoms tend to go unnoticed until a major event such as a heart attack happens. Our nurses offer checks that often take no more than ten minutes but they make such a big difference. We make it even easier by bringing our healthy heart checks to workplaces across the south – they’re just a quick and easy drop-in during the working day.”
