Countdown as new Poundstretcher gets ready to open its doors in Portsmouth's Cascades this week
A popular variety store will be opening its doors for the first time in a busy Portsmouth shopping centre this week.

Poundstretcher is opening in the old Dorothy Perkins unit in Cascades Shopping Centre on Thursday, December 12 at 9am. It is sure to draw in a host of shoppers looking for bargains during the busy period of Christmas shopping.
To celebrate the opening, Poundstretcher will be giving the first 100 customers goodie bags, while entertainment will be on show for people as they check out the goods on offer.
The new store will sell a range of branded and non-branded products from DIY to household cleaning and health and beauty. It will also be the home to the Pet Hut, an animal loving section of the store will give pet owners the chance to choose from hundreds of products for their furry friends at discounted prices.
Poundstretcher has shops across the UK including an existing store in Cosham High Street. There was disappointment in Gosport when a Poundstretcher closed down in October but news of the opening in Portsmouth will please shoppers, especially as the unit it is taking over has been vacant since 2021.
There will now be plenty of choice for shoppers looking for bargains with B&M successfully opening a short walk away in Arundel Street in November.
On Thursday, the store will be opened by the mayor of Portsmouth, councillor Jason Fazackarley, and lady mayoress, Miss Helen Mitchell.
