DISAPPOINTED Andrew Barnett of Barnbrook Systems feels the Chancellor could have done more to support international trade

Fareham-based Barnbrook Systems has responded to today's Budget announcement by the Chancellor.

Andrew Barnett, managing director of Barnbrook Systems, said: "This was a disappointing budget, especially for those businesses that trade overseas.

"There were some measures which will be welcomed by some SMEs such as the continued freeze on fuel duty, permanent lowering of business rates for retail, hospitality and leisure properties and funding to make training for apprentices under 25 free.

"However, it appears that international trade was not even on the Chancellor’s radar. Established and new exporters need greater support, whether that is in tax reliefs, targeted support for innovative technology and high growth sectors, access to finance or greater investment in the Department for Business and Trade to help break down barriers and develop partnerships worldwide.

"The Chancellor’s tunnel vision means that she is blind to the potential international trade has to deliver growth and boost confidence both overseas and among hard-pressed businesses at home."
