Borough charity set to benefit from BBC
A HAVANT charity has been granted thousands of pounds in funding.
Children in Need has awarded the Oarsome Chance Foundation £8,800 in partnership with Wellcome, as part of the BBC’s £2.5m Curiosity programme.
The grant will fund staff and volunteer costs, as well as equipment to enable the initiative’s weekly rowing activities for vulnerable children and young people.
Stuart McClellan, a trustee at Oarsome Chance, said: ‘We’re so grateful for this funding from BBC Children in Need and Wellcome.
‘By giving young people an opportunity to indirectly explore in a fun engaging way how science impacts activities in their lives, we hope to motivate them to take a keener interest in their world and even get inspired to apply what they learn here and investigate further in other areas of their lives.’
Since it was kick-started in 1980, Children in Need has raised more than £600m for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
