Kings Theatre in Portsmouth to reopen with series of film screenings

A THEATRE that has been allowed to reopen following a change in government guidelines will be showing films for visitors.

On September 5 the curtain will go up at Kings Theatre in Albert Road, Southsea – for the first time since March.

With a strict cleaning regime, social distancing measures and crowd control, the theatre will be showing movies with a theatrical twist, including Swan Lake, The Red Shoes and Kinky Boots.

The first screening will be on September 5, with Bonnie Langford attending for a question and answer session with the audience before a showing of 42nd Street.

CEO Paul Woolf said: ‘Team Kings has been working tirelessly to find a way to bring entertainment back to the people of Portsmouth in a safe and comfortable environment.

‘We’ll be adding more screenings over the next few weeks so please keep an eye on our website and social media for the latest news.

‘We cannot wait to welcome the first customers back through our doors.’

The screening of 42nd Street will be followed by Kinky Boots on October 17, with a pre-show Q&A with director Jerry Mitchell via video link.

Choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne will also be coming to the theatre on October 3, with movies followed by a limited meet and greet event.

These three special events will also be raising money for the Acting for Others charity, which provides emotional and practical support to theatre workers.
