Portsmouth has been ranked as one of the UK’s top entertaining cities to visit in a new study.
From late-night pub crawls and packed gig venues to leafy parks and cultural hotspots, the UK offers no shortage of places that know how to entertain.
Whether you’re planning a weekend break or a longer city escape, the right destination can make all the difference, especially if you’re looking for a mix of nightlife, outdoor space and good value.
But which cities really stand out when it comes to keeping visitors entertained? A new study by Braw Scottish Tours set out to answer that question, analysing 50 cities and towns across the UK to uncover where visitors are most spoiled for choice in 2026.
The study looked at 17 key factors across three main areas: entertainment & nightlife, recreation & outdoor activities, and lifestyle & amenities. It measured everything from pubs and live music venues to parks and the cost of a pint or movie ticket, because the best cities don’t just offer fun, but they make it easy and affordable to enjoy.
Portsmouth comes in 14th overall, with a total score of 33.55, and is known for its combination of affordable entertainment and outdoor spaces. The city ranks eighth in the UK for movie ticket price (£8.00), making cinema trips relatively accessible, and sixth for parks per 10,000 people (0.67), giving visitors plenty of green space to enjoy during the day.
While golf courses are more limited, ranking 39th, Portsmouth still provides a balanced experience for a city break. Its mix of affordable entertainment options and accessible outdoor spaces makes it a solid choice for visitors looking for a relaxed but active getaway.
