Brits urged to act this World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day (4 February) is a day dedicated to raising awareness for those living with cancer and how we can all encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.
It’s estimated the day raises over £150 million annually to support organisations working towards a cure, right across the globe (Walk The Walk).
So, for those searching for a new way to support organisations like Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie this World Cancer Day, the team at easyfundraising are asking Brits to consider changing the way they shop – a way to raise free donations at no extra cost.
Set up in 2008, the day marks an opportunity for people across the globe to get involved with charities and causes working day in, day out to finally beat cancer. The primary goal remains to create a world without cancer by producing new treatments and research.
Yet some of the country’s leading cancer charities remain entirely dependent on public donations to keep up and running. Macmillan Cancer Support revealed 98% of their revenue comes from public support, and World Cancer Research states the vast majority of their donations go towards funding research in hopes of a cure.
In this spirit, the team at easyfundraising are shining a spotlight on how everyone can mark the annual event and support their work- by raising free donations using their online shopping.
James Moir, CEO of easyfundraising, says: “Nearly 1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. No two experiences are ever the same – whether you’re living with cancer or supporting a loved one, it affects us all.
“That’s why at easyfundraising we’re proud to provide a way for everyone to support organisations like Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK – simply by changing the way we shop online.”
What does this mean? easyfundraising empowers online shoppers to raise donations for charities and good causes like Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK at no extra cost. Through their website and app, over two million shoppers use their online purchases to secure donations for over 190,000 causes and charities across the UK – all at no extra cost.
In essence, by making online purchases via easyfundraising with retailers including Argos, eBay and TUI, a free donation can be raised to support a cancer charity or cause close to your heart.
To date, easyfundraising supporters have raised thousands for cancer charities and good causes:
James Moir, CEO of easyfundraising, says: “The data shows us people can’t give to charities and causes the way they used to; the cost-of-living crisis has meant we’re all feeling the pinch. That’s why we’re proud at easyfundraising to provide a way for people to support their favourite organisation at no extra cost. If you’ve never heard of us before, sign up and support a cause. With your support, each year is one closer to where we can finally live in a world without cancer.”
